Boat stopping exercise as part of Coastal Trident 21. UAV deployment of a drogue line.
Drogue lines are deployed across the path of a non-compliant vessel. The vessel's lower unit catches the line, drogues inflate and apply enough drag to pull the vessel off the plane.
New asymmetric drogue line permanently disables engines without harming crew . Developed over last 3 years the system is deployed across the path of a hostile vessel, the energetic effector is pulled into the engines and prevents further intrusion into a security zone.
A vessel travelling at 40 knots is difficult to communicate with verbally and not easy to engage with kinetic effectors if required.
The same vessel travelling at 6 knots can be boarded, verbally communicated with or engaged kinetically if required.
By radically slowing a hostile vessel more time is bought for security personnel
to identify and engage.
Drogue lines can be deployed by unmanned aerial and surface platforms using Maritime Arresting Technologies unique recoiless launcher. This removes the need to put operators into harms way.
The launcher is compact and lightweight allowing it to be fitted to very small delivery platforms. Multiple units can be mounted allowing swarm attacks to be engaged.
The deployment of drogue lines against a potential threat will not escalate an engagement. The worse case is that a potential threat experiences " minor inconvenience".
